Scholarship Application for Summer Reading Support
Redwood Coast Reading Alliance (RCRA) welcomes your interest in obtaining financial assistance to support your child with reading development. A $1000 scholarship is available to families to help defray the cost of private tutoring throughout the year.
Eligibility is based on financial need. Scholarships are considered on a case-by-case basis. All requests are confidential.
Please be aware of the key guidelines that are followed in awarding these scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded directly to the individual tutor you have selected to support your child.
Scholarships will be awarded to those families who can commit to a minimum of two sessions per week.
Scholarships will only be awarded to tutors who are trained in Structured Literacy, an evidenced-based approach aligned with the Science of Reading and recommended for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. RCRA will reach out to the the provider you have selected to confirm that they have received training in Structured Literacy (programs such as LiPS, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, IMSE, and others) before a scholarship will be granted.
Scholarships are intended for any K-12 Humboldt County student who demonstrates reading difficulties including dyslexia.
Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis and must be used within a consecutive four month period.
At the end of each four month period, any unused portion of the awarded scholarship will be returned to the RCRA Scholarship Fund.
To apply for a scholarship, complete the Scholarship Application. Be sure to include the name and contact information of the service provider you have selected. Upload all forms (all documents must be converted to a PDF prior to uploading into the application). RCRA will notify you via email if you have been awarded a scholarship.
